Monica
Williams
Flutist
Monica Williams started her classical training in the suburbs
of Chicago. She played with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra,
Grant Park Summer Youth Orchestra, Encore Chamber Orchestra,
and made her first solo performance with the Metropolitan
Youth Orchestra at the age of 15.
After
graduating from Eastman School of Music in 1999, Monica did
some graduate work at University of Cincinnati. Her primary
teachers have been Bonita Boyd, Susan Levitin, and Brad Gardner.
Recently Monica has added improvisations and extended flute
techniques, such as multiphonics, to her playing. In addition
to performing, Monica also teaches for the Civic Arts of Walnut
Creek.
Some of
her awards include First Place at Civic Union League of Chicago,
Chicago Flute Club Competition, Honorable Mention at Chicago
Symphony Concerto Competition for three years, Metropolitan
Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition Winner, and George
Eastman Scholarship recipient.
Monica
has been a member of Copus since the first week she moved
to San Francisco in October of 2000. Ever since the first
week that she met Wendy and Royal, her music has continued
to blossom to new heights.
