APRIL NEWSLETTER

As Carole Simpson said last night on the ABC national news, "there is a spoken word MOVEMENT in this country!" (Thanks to my East Coast mom for the alert on this journalistic essay on spoken word...) Below are many ways you can participate in Copus leading the movement. Please join us!

If you are in the Lower Haight on TUESDAY evening, stop by the Cafe International (508 Haight @ Fillmore) where Royal, Monica, and Wendy will grace the stage. On THURSDAY evening, the trio will be performing at Dalva's which is next door to the Roxie Theatre on 16th Street @ Valencia. Both events 7:00-9:00pm.

SUNDAY, APRIL 14 - TOWER RECORDS. The full Copus ensemble was invited to do a show at the store's 3rd Street location (near Pac Bell Park, 660 Third @ Townsend - lots of parking nearby!). We really need you to come out and cheer on the Copus at this free afternoon event. While there you might want to pick up an extra copy of Later Than You Think to mail to your aunt in Topeka (you know - the one who always encloses a check in your birthday card!). 3:00-4:00pm.

If you happen to be LOS ANGELES the weekend of April 19-21, Copus will be the featured guests at the Psychobabble Cabaret event Sunday night at 7:00pm. If you're interested in details, please let me know.

Upcoming May events:

SUNDAY, MAY 19 - MARSH THEATRE. A very special evening of music and spoken word presented by Copus Music which will include Chicago-based actress Betsey Means' solo portrayal of explorer Mary Kingsley; Wendy's composition Israel Palestine featuring a group of powerful women speaking, singing, playing, and dancing the truth; and, of course, Copus in its exquisite beauty. 7:00pm. $12-17 admission at the door.

THURSDAY, MAY 30 - VOODOO LOUNGE. The latest hip club to grace Mission Street, they are working hard to bring artistic excellence to their stage. Mission Street @ 25th - 9:00pm.

In June:

Date not determined yet, but stay tuned for the announcement of the next Art Angels extravaganza! Last year over 2,000 people turned out at the SomArts Cultural Center for an unforgettable night of magic and mystery. Copus is honored to be among the performers.

Thanks, as always, for acknowledging the positivity that Copus promotes!
