RADIO.
Royal and Wendy are producing a monthly show entitled "Poets + Composers"
which will be broadcast worldwide via artistfirst.com. Bringing you the
best original talent from the San Francisco Bay Area, the first show -
featuring the dynamic poet/shaman Oba Jamal Israel and sultry poet/songstress
Delia Tomino Nakayama - will be aired this SUNDAY NIGHT (2/16/03) at 9:00pm
Pacific time. Just tune in to this debut show by going to: http://www.artistfirst.com
and enjoy!
TV.
Copus Music and Vanderpoel Films are joining forces to create 1/2-hour
shows for cable TV. Wendy and Royal will be hosting and probing the inner
thoughts of artists; thus we are planning to call it "The Artist's
Think Tank". The show will be similar in nature to the radio show,
but will have the awesome visual editing of filmmaker extraordinaire,
Fred Vanderpoel. (If you don't know him by name, you have surely seen
some of his Clio Award-winning commercials. His clients have included
Apple, Jerry Rice, Pele, and Charles Barkley, to name a few!) To date
we have already recorded 4 shows which include the talents of theatrical
spoken word ensemble Wordwind, R+B artist Stevie Harris, fiber-alchemist/poet
April Chartrand, poet Craig Easley, and Jamaican singer/songwriter Sparlha
Swa. Wow! Fred is busily working on editing a trailer and we are busily
seeking sponsors. Please contact us if you are interested.
FILM.
Fred V. (the same amazing guy as listed above) is also in the process
of editing a documentary film entitled "Out of Your Mind". In
it you will recognize the best and the boldest of the Bay Area including,
of course, Copus. We'll keep you informed of the progress.
PERFORMING
IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
Copus has been asked to perform at the Women's Art Festival in Long Beach,
sponsored by the City Council. The two-day event is taking place on MARCH
8 + 9 and will include an art gallery show and 6 hours of live music,
dancing, and poetry. Copus is the only ensemble performing both days.
For those folks near L.A., we will be on playing on SATURDAY, between
1-2pm, and SUNDAY, between 4-5pm. For more information and directions,
please visit: http://2ndcitycouncil.org.
ST.
MARY'S VOLUNTEER GIG.
The last time we performed at the Soulful Sundown service at the Unitarian
Church, we were approached by Linda Harris of the St. Mary's adolescent
psychiatric ward. She thought Copus would be perfect to lead a poetry
writing workshop. We agreed and it has been scheduled for FRIDAY, FEBRUARY
21. The plan is to assist with the direction of the writing and then to
have the young people perform their poems with the live musical improvisation
by Copus members. Should be an exciting and challenging time for all of
us!
SOULFUL
SUNDOWN REMINDER.
Don't forget to check out the best kept musical secret in San Francisco:
the Soulful Sundown service at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Franklin
Street. EVERY SUNDAY from 5-6pm, Kymberly Jackson produces an amazing
program of top-line music mixed with subtle spiritual reminders that will
leave you feeling more positive about your place in the cosmos. Copus
has performed twice in these services and certainly plans to do more!
BENEFIT
FOR AVOTCJA.
On THURSDAY evening, MARCH 20, Copus has been asked to be a part of the
spoken word/music roster performing at a benefit for Avotcja. It will
be held at a hopping new club in Vallejo called Rafael's. We'll let you
know more details next month. Newsflash: We were just informed that Avotcja
has won an award for best Blues DJ of the Bay Area - there will be a celebration
this Saturday night at the Alice Arts Center in Oakland. Congratulations
to the brilliant and powerfully enduring Avotcja!
NEW
PHOTOS ON COPUS.NET.
If you haven't visited the site lately, you should. Web designer Mike
Duffy has done an awesome job of updating everything. The site looks very
clean and pretty now - and now features 6 pages of photos, including a
shot of Wendy in Montpelier and a shot of Royal in Cannes. www.copus.net/photos.htm.
NEW PHOENIX RISING.
And last, but certainly not least, flutist Monica Williams and composer/pianist
Wendy Loomis have formed a new duo entitled New Phoenix Rising. This past
Sunday at the Walnut Creek Civic Arts Center, they presented three of
their compositions and received rave reviews! Their goal is to create
original works and improvisations that will soon be recorded and included
in the Copus Catalog. (You mean you haven't visited http://copuscatalog.com
yet??? Now is your chance.)
Thanks to all of you,
once again, for your continued interest and support of Copus. We believe
in bringing positivity, creativity, and spiritual strength to the world.
Keep strong!
