POETIC LICENSE - the official Copus
merchandise store is now open. Wait until you see all the great things
you can buy for your valentines - or for yourself, for that matter!
In the 'Copus Music' section we have t-shirts, lunchboxes, and even
a cool clock with the Copus Music logo design on it; the design was
done for us by the famed designer Peter Greco who did the logos for
Santana, TV show Cheers, the New York Times, to name a few. If you purchase
the thermal coffee cup by February 4th (that's this Thursday), you will
receive a free pound of coffee - yum! www.cafeshops.com/copusmusic.
In the 'poetic groove'
section, our store features beautiful notecards, blank journals, and
carrying bags with the latest ramu aki artwork depicting some of Royal
Kent's inspiring lyrics for those of you who can't seem to get enough
of "The Haves Have the Have Nots doing everything but what they
ought!"
Stop by today and
take advantage of our free pound of coffee offer! www.cafeshops.com/copusmusic.
2.
FAVEStreet CATALOG. Copus was asked to join the newly-created,
powerful FAVEStreet Catalog. FAVE is an acronym for faith and values
entertainment. They select words and music from all genres and all levels
of recognition that convey positive messages to listeners. Soon our
catalog of titles will also be available intertwined with their varied
selections. One of the cool things about purchasing from our branded
store on Fave Street is that a portion of each sale goes to various
non-profits and charities. Check it out: www.copusmusic.FaveStreet.com.
3.
COMPILATION CD RELEASE. One of Wendy's compositions, 'obsession',
was just released on a compilation CD produced by the amazing Australia
to Hollywood transplant, gilli moon. The CD will be traveling the world
and attending all promotional events with the hosting organization,
SongsAlive - first stop: Midem conference in Cannes, France at the end
of January. To read about, listen to, and/or purchase Sampler #6, please
go to: www.songsalive.org/CDsampler6.
4.
UPCOMING GIGS (February + March).
Thursday, February
12th - 7pm: Our poetic producer colleagues, Tony Mims + Martha Cinader,
are hosting a special event to celebrate two years of hosting "Listen
+ Be Heard" at Rafael's Bar in Vallejo (301 Nebraska Street). If
you haven't yet made the effort to cross the Bay Bridge (or any other
bridge, for that matter), this might be the time to do so. For a mere
$7 you will be able to partake of both a feast for your stomach and
your ears/heart/soul - lots of talented poets, including our own Royal
Kent, and the debut of PHOENIX RISING featuring Wendy (composer/pianist)
+ Monica (flute). For directions and more information: www.rafaelsbarvallejo.com.
Friday, March 5th
- 9:15am (yes, you read that right - am!): For our early risers, start
your day right by stopping by the Unitarian Universalist Church on Friday
morning to hear a wonderful spiritual service with music by the Copus
trio. 1187 Franklin @ Geary. Free.
Friday, March 12th
- 8pm. Hosted by the beloved ramu aki, Phoenix Rising has been asked
to be the feature at the Friday night Café International gathering.
PHOENIX RISING is another delightful offshoot from the ever-expanding
Copus Music media company - consisting of composer/pianist Wendy and
flutist Monica. Open mic precedes and antecedes their performance (sign-up
starts at 7:30pm). 508 Haight Street @ Fillmore. Free.
Sunday, March 14th
- time TBA. A return once again to the Walnut Creek Civic Arts center
where Monica teaches flute, the Copus trio will be performing as part
of the annual faculty recital. More details next month.
5.
INTERNET RADIO. Friday, February 13 - 8pm, PST. Don't miss
our next Internet radio version of "Poets + Composers" as
it is your opportunity to hear new Copus material played live in our
studio along with interviews of band members. Now that "Poets +
Composers" has been aired on the Artist First World Radio Network
for a year (every 2nd Friday of the month), we felt it high time we
exposed some personal tidbits about ourselves. Tune in to hear a special
guest artist visitor! www.artistfirst.com.
6.
THEATRE PERFORMANCES. Copus Music is busily working with
the Jean Shelton Theatre, Saigobe Events, and Fely Productions to set
up a monthly theatrical performance and mingling/networking/party event
that is going to shake up the sleepy downtown! First show is scheduled
for April. Stay tuned! www.felyproductions.com.

POETRY SECTION. We have chosen a poem by Daphne Workman for
our poetry section this month. Not only does Daphne serve on the Copus
Music board, have a successful bookkeeping business, play a mean classical
piano, and a smile that will melt your heart - she also writes poetry!
Enjoy this love poem as a special valentine to you!
"The Middle
of the Night"
Lightly sleeping,
I feel him turn towards me,
The bed shifting, the dog once again settling at the foot of the bed.
His body, warm with dreams reaches out for me,
His arms, strong with love, slide under mine to bring to me to him.
As I ease my body to fit in that perfect resting place of his own
Reaching back I lay my palm against his cheek,
And feel the muscles of his face gently smile
As his arms tighten...
He cares not that
my body is not perfect,
He loves me for the beauty of my soul.
And as he lie sleeping, I am awake..
Feeling his heart beat, the familiarity of his love.
I cannot glide back into my dreams as yet,
Not until I thank God for such a gift.

Thanks for reading, listening, paying attention to the muse that lives
inside. Hope to see each one of you soon!
