JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the Year of the Monkey - an intelligent, mischievous, and somewhat braggadocios animal! Make the most of it!

Copus items:

1. Radio show this Friday
2. Publishing deal
3. Jean Shelton Theatre
4. Thanks - Faithful Fools + Rafael's Bar
5. Poetry section.

1. RADIO SHOW THIS FRIDAY. Copus Music has been producing "Poets + Composers" for a year now and due to the positive response worldwide, we have been asked by hosts Artist First World Radio Network to continue bringing the power of Bay Area independent artists to smart folk everywhere. Thanks for listening! If you haven't tuned in yet, you definitely should listen this Friday at 8pm PST (11pm for our East Coast friends) when our two special guests will be reggae singer extraordinaire from Dominique, Ras Digital, and phenomenal world beat singer from the Ivory Coast, Felicité (www.felyproductions.com). These two people are not only exceptional talents, but wonderful, generous, thoughtful beings as well. Each new "Poets + Composers" show will be 'aired' every 2nd Friday of the month, so check it out at: www.artistfirst.com - where the artist always comes first!

2. PUBLISHING DEAL. We are very excited and honored to be in the process of negotiating a publishing deal with a Houston-based publishing company. We met the owner during our visit to and playing at the 2NMC event in Nashville last fall. The potential for licensing not only the works of Copus but also the compositions of Wendy Loomis and Phoenix Rising to film companies is quite a concept. We'll keep you informed as we know more details.

3. JEAN SHELTON THEATRE. For those of you who keep asking about seeing more live Copus events in San Francisco, the opportunities are upcoming. Thanks to the connection with theatrical wizard/poet Timothy Trygg, we are currently in preproduction phase of monthly shows at the lovely Jean Shelton Theatre off Union Square. The first show is tentatively scheduled for March 18th and will not only include Copus and lots of other exquisite artistry, but will also feature a fun and painless mixer for you to meet more folks as sophisticated and intelligent as you! Stay tuned.

4. THANKS - to the warm-hearted hosts at the Faithful Fools Ministry, the always vigilant and talented ramu aki, and to the powerhouse duo of Tony Mims and Martha Cinader at Rafael's Bar in Vallejo, we really appreciate the opportunity to share our creations at the December gigs!

5. POETRY SECTION. Perhaps it is time to include a couple of selections by Royal and Wendy. Many of you have responded positively to Wendy's poem 'obsession' (since who can't relate to the topic?!) and we are pleased to announce that it was selected to receive an Editor's Choice Award and to be included in the upcoming poetry anthology publication by poetry.com.

Royal, as you all know, is a consummate writer and thus we would like to share with you one of his new selections - you'll have to wait to hear it performed live until the Jean Shelton Theatre show, but here's a little taste to whet your appetite!

'obsession'
why is there always the hurt in our eyes
we rip at the fabric we've cried through the years
how can i wake up alone in the cold
my heart racing faster
i reach for your softness
gone

my brain screams your name
crazy with the pounding the aching
i need to know why
obsessed with the first time
i die i beg
i lead you to the depths of my despair
alone

gone are my senses
the hours have no meaning
the churning
i need to know why
obsessed with the questions
i die i beg
i follow you to the depths of my despair
why

knock at my brain
scream your name
crazy with your love
crazy with your love
why

'Seashore'
Our Souls Collided
Upon the Seashore
Neptune swept us
To Safety
And Two Elephants
Rose Up
From Deep Beneath
The Sea
Sacred Ground Touched
Our Feet and
I Remember Laughing
In Unison
We lit Candles
Recited Poetry to Our Ancestors
And Then We Danced
The Night Away
A Crown
A Crystal
A Rose Pedal
The Future
Colliding on the Seashore
We Danced all Night
Upon The Seashore
