SATURDAY, JANUARY 22, 8:00pm - In honor of extraordinary poet Pat Parker (read an excerpt of her work in the 'Poetry Section'), La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley will be hosting an annual tribute and celebration. Featuring such notable poets as Avotcja, Leslie Simon, QR Hand, Genny Lim, and our very own Royal Kent, the evening promises to be poignant and inspiring. 3105 Shattuck, Berkeley, 510-849-2568. www.lapena.org. The Flock of Flutes is a semi-professional ensemble conducted by our very own Monica Williams. At this performance you will have the chance not only to hear some great classical repertoire arranged for flute choir, but also to hear the debut performance of 'Flirtation' written by Wendy Loomis and arranged by Monica Williams (the duo aka Phoenix Rising). $6 cover. www.arts-ed.org. Many people know Clara Hsu as the owner of a music store with one of the best collections of international instruments anywhere. Many people also know that she hosts a series of live performances by world musicians, but did you know that she is a wonderful poet as well? Copus Multimedia is a record label that incorporates CD and DVD production, online and offline distribution, licensing, publishing, cable TV and Internet radio shows, educational programs, merchandise, and live performances by a select group of artists.
