1.
Mark your calendars for a very special event coming up in August! On
Thursday night, AUGUST 28th, COPUS is producing a fundraiser
for their upcoming European promotional tour. The event will be held
at the Walnut Creek Civic Arts Center (111 N. Wiget Lane, Walnut Creek).
Activities commence at 8pm. Tickets are $12.
The evening will
include not only a performance by members of COPUS, but also performance
by the winners of the young people's poetry contest. If you or someone
you know would like to enter (must be under 18 and available to perform
on August 28th), please contact: wendy@copus.net.
Just to entice you
further, there will be two special raffles at the fundraiser. a) For
those of you who have always wanted to play the piccolo, COPUS flutist
Monica Williams is offering a piccolo to keep along with 4 free lessons
on the instrument. b) The second raffle offers a chance to win a stay
at a gorgeous bungalow for 4 nights in beautiful Tulum, Mexico near
the Mayan ruins. Raffle tickets for either package are $10 each. You
do not have to be at the performance to purchase a raffle ticket. Simply
save your raffle ticket stub and you will be contacted with the results.
Tickets to the performance
and raffle tickets can be purchased in August from any COPUS band member.
2. The incredible poets/producers Martha Cinader and
Tony Mims have generously asked COPUS to perform at their 'Listen +
Be Heard' forum every 3rd Thursday of the month. Come check out this
wonderful space and exciting new event in Vallejo. Thursday, July
24th and THURSDAY, AUGUST 21st. Rafael's Bar, 301 Nebraska
Street, Vallejo. 9pm. $5 at the door.
3. For those of you who attended the fun event at Hotel
Cosmo in April, you are familiar with the dynamic visual arts group
called ArtworkSF (www.artworksf.com). They are producing a month-long
show of works by San Francisco artists. The opening night is Thursday
night (all Thursdays for COPUS - what does that mean?!) - AUGUST
7th. COPUS will be performing along with other fine poets, composers,
and dancers. The event is from 5:30-7:30pm. 934 Brannan at 8th Street.
I'm not sure what they will charge as an admission fee, but I'm sure
it will be worth it!
4. REMINDERS.
Be sure to tune
in to our weekly radio show, "Poets + Composers", airing EVERY
TUESDAY night at 9pm PST at www.artisfirst.com.
Also, our ever-expanding

secure website - check out your favorites at www.cdstreet/artists/copusmusic.
5. POETRY SECTION.

sending your poems to us. Remember that poetry can save the world!
There's a lot to be said for a Fred June 11, 2003
Chorus
There's a lot to be said for a Fred
There's a lot to be said for a Fred
There's a lot that can be said
There's a lot should be said
There's a lot to be said for a Fred
1st verse
They say that Freds will make you happy
They say that Freds will make you glad
Some say that Freds will make you jealous
Some say that they make you mad
You can say that
Freds are handsome
You can say that Freds are bright
Even say that Freds are perfect
And that Freds are always right
Chorus
2nd Verse
You can talk about a Larry
You can talk about a Sam
Talk about Tom, Dick & Harry
And talk about a Dan
You can praise a
Joe and hug him
You can sing about a Ted
But when all is done & said
There's lots more to be said for a Fred
