1. COPUS GIGS.
This Thursday (TOMORROW!) is your big chance to participate in an event that promises magnificence. Hosted by Tony Mims and Martha Cinader, "Listen + Be Heard" provides an amazing evening of spoken word, poetry, music, intelligence, fun, and compassion. Not bad for $7.00! The only trick is Rafael's Bar is in Vallejo, but trust me that the drive across the Bay Bridge is definitely worth it. Lots of birthday guests and surprises. 9pm. 301 Nebraska Street, Vallejo. www.rafaelsbarvallejo.com.

JULY 4th - Copus has been asked to return to the newly-revitalized Cannery Stage. Monica and Wendy performed a couple of weeks ago and had a great time performing on the outdoor stage. Although there are lots of tourists, they are of the friendly variety, so don't be intimidated by that and come on out and say 'hello'. There will be tons of great music happening from The Cannery to Fisherman's Wharf on the 4th. We are happy to be a part of the festivities. 12noon-3pm. 2801 Leavenworth. Free. www.thecannery.com.

2. PHOENIX RISING GIGS.
Wendy and Monica are gathering quite a following in San Jose. If you live in South Bay or if you feel like taking a drive down beautiful 280, be the guests of Phoenix Rising at Center Stage, 1608 S. De Anza Blvd., San Jose. Free. Fridays: June 11, June 25, July 2. 7:30pm.

JULY 7th. After a rousing response at one of always-packed open mics at the Canvas Gallery, Phoenix Rising has been asked to feature on Wednesday night, July 7th. Open mic starts at 7:30 - we go on around 9:45pm. Free. 1200 Lincoln @ 9th Avenue. www.thecanvasgallery.com.

3. COPUS PERSONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS + CONGRATULATIONS.

We want to congratulate Monica on her appointment as the conductor of the Flock of Flutes, a semi-professional group affiliated with the Walnut Creek Civic Arts Center where Monica has taught for almost four years. Beginning in the fall, she will be working with the ensemble in preparation for some very special performances that will include a commissioned work by a contemporary composer (any guesses as to who that will be?). Congratulations, Monica!

Parallel to Monica, Wendy has recently been appointed as the music director of the Sunday evening alternative, 'Unplugged' service at the St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church on Union Street. Wendy will begin on Father's Day, June 20. The one-hour service promises lots of wonderful guest musicians and poets from the Copus roster. 2325 Union Street. Free (donations accepted). 5:30pm.

"Offered on Sunday evenings, St. Mary's Unplugged is an informal service offering innovative liturgy and music, the Holy Meal and a program for children. This service appeals to a growing number of interfaith families. It also attracts people who cannot attend Sunday morning services or who are on the margin of Christian life. Innovative music is integral." www.smvsf.org.

Due to the wonderful success of the Copus article in Tommy Osuna's wondrous "World Rhythms" magazine, Royal has been asked to be a contributing writer representing the artistic richness of Northern California. The stories will be tied into the interviews from the Internet radio show ("Poets + Composers") to further represent the power of the word. Awesome!

Not to leave out the dynamic diversity of drummer Greg, he has been busily involved in a multitude of musical projects in addition to performing with Copus. Did we mention that he won the Guitar Center's drum competition two years in a row? We sure are glad to have him in the mix!

For the latest on the quartet, make sure to visit the bio pages on the Copus website at www.copus.net.

4. CAFÉ PRESS TAKING OFF.

There are so many great things in the Copus store. Recently added were some cool mugs with a ramu aki gorgeous design of the Phoenix Rising logo - soon to be collectors' items! Take a look for yourself - www.cafepress.com/copusmusic.

5. POETS + COMPOSERS.
This Friday, June 11th, tune in to hear a wonderful show featuring Antonio, Charles and Topaz Dubois - poetry, music, interviews, insights. Poets + Composers airs every 2nd + Friday of the month at 8pm, PST. www.artistfirst.com.

6. POETRY SECTION.

"Blue Eyes"

Each day I live I want to be that special girl that they can't see. This girl was so beautiful with her blonde hair, blue eyes except when she cries. Her hair shines like the sun. So bright and full of delight. Her blue eyes are like the sky. But when she cries you can see the sparkle in her eyes. Her face is like a cloud. It is white. Clouds change all the time, but this girl can't find her real mind. I know she is depressed all the time, but I promise that you are the best and I will love you till the end of time. So don't go away because you are my baby girl that I love because you're mine. Precious child don't grow up because I will lose my mind because you won't be around me to tell me that I am your mommy and you love me because I helped you through all the time of sorrow. All grown up now. I feel like I am never on your mind. But don't forget I'm always around. Come to me and we will live through eternity. I love you child - don't forget that you are my pride and joy. And that's all that's on my mind."

Thank you for your commitment to compassion, grace, and joy - especially at this time.

Peace,

Wendy + Royal
