1. THURSDAY NIGHT (3/20) - Copus
will be performing as part of a benefit for poet/multi-percussionist Avotcja
at a happening club in East Bay - Rafael's Bar, 301 Nebraska Street, Vallejo.
Event starts at 9pm and Copus will go on between 9:30-9:45. (I-80 East,
Tennessee Street exit, R on Sonoma Blvd, R on Nebraska. Information: 707-643-3597).
Hope to see you there, especially our East Bay fans!
2. LONG BEACH THANKS - The
Copus quartet (Royal, Wendy, Monica, Greg) want to thank all of our new
friends in Long Beach for a wonderful two-day extravaganza at the Women's
Art Festival. We promise to visit again and hope some of you head up north
for an interview on our radio and TV shows (talking especially to you
- Faith, Aja, Chase, Cheryl).
3. FUTURE GIGS - Organized
by our colleague, April Chartrand, Copus has been asked to perform at
the Hotel Cosmo (downtown San Francisco) on April 23rd.
Soulful Sundown, produced
by multi-talented Kymberly Jackson, has invited Copus for a return engagement
at the Unitarian Universalist Church May 18.
Mark your calendars!
Details next month.
4. RADIO - EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT
- Now that we've worked out a few little bugs in communication,
our new show "Poets + Composers" is airing each Sunday night
at 9pm PST (midnight on the East Coast U.S.). Wendy and Royal have been
interviewing some of the best and brightest talents of the Bay Area, including
poets Delia Tomino Nakiyama, Craig Easley, Oba Jamal Israel, Wordwind
Chorus - and composers/improvisers Jethro Jeremiah, Steve Munger, Kymberly
Jackson, Sparlha Swa, Stevie Harris, Mark Anthony Williams. And that's
just the first 3 shows! Tune in at: http://www.artistfirst.com. You won't
be disappointed.
5. TV SHOWS - We've
mentioned the wonders of hooking up with Fred Vanderpoel in previous emails,
but it can't be repeated enough that the joint force of Vanderpoel Films
and Copus Music is a match made in heaven. Thanks to the unrelenting power
of Royal's poetry and business acumen over many years in this town, the
future looks very bright - and we are all about sharing that bright future
with our fellow artists and spiritual visionaries. In the works now is
a 2-night filming event of the artists listed above and we'd like you
to be a part of this scene. Tentative location: Boom Boom Room, San Franciso.
Date: TBA.
6. PERSONALS - On
a personal note, our cello player, Larry Wissink, and his wife, Jen, have
a new baby boy named Gerrit. With parents like Jen and Larry, his outlook
for a great life is assured. Congratulations to them and we look forward
to meeting the 4th baby born into the Copus family circle!
Many of you have met
my dear friend, Debra Podjed (she played with us at the Sanctuary and
also as part of the "Israel Palestine" piece at the Marsh Theatre)
(also her beautiful painting graces the cover of the Copus CD, "Later
Than You Think") - frame drummer, painter, astrologer, editor, archivist,
hypnotherapist, and overall incredibly wonderful person, she is moving
to Arizona at the end of the month. I will miss her terribly, but also
know that she will be setting up an artist retreat to which Copus can
escape from the imminent paparazzi. We are hosting a potluck dinner for
her on March 28th, so if you want to participate, please contact Wendy
directly. Best wishes, D!
Thanks to all of you for being who you are! In these troubled times it's
important I am grateful for having such beautiful friends.
