1. COPUS MULTIMEDIA LAUNCHED
We are very pleased to announce the launching of Copus
Multimedia - the Awareness Label of Conscious Music and Words! Copus
Multimedia is an independent label that creates and presents contemporary,
original material with a positive message - rap without violence, hip
hop with a degree, jazz with lyrics, classical with a beat. Gil Scott
Heron meets Chick Corea. Maya Angelou meets Stravinsky. Peter Tosh meets
Debussy. Our goal is to promote intelligent, socially conscious words
in combination with lyrical, beautiful melodies.
Copus Multimedia is a record label that incorporates
CD and DVD production, online and offline distribution, licensing, publishing,
cable TV and Internet radio shows, educational programs, merchandise,
and live performances by a select group of artists. We provide products
for the educated consumer who desires hip, current, sophisticated content
that is often difficult to find in the mainstream media.
Please visit the new site at www.copusmusic.com and
tell a friend!
2. WORLD RHYTHM MAGAZINE
If you haven't picked one up yet, look in your favorite café
for a copy of the exciting, new World Rhythm Magazine that emerges from
Southern California - lots of wonderful articles on music, health, spiritual
awareness featuring a column about the latest musical events in Northern
California by our very own Royal Kent! The magazine is free and is always
interested in discovering more writers and advertising contributors.
3. UPCOMING GIGS
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28, 9:00pm
Rafael's Bar, 301 Nebraska Street, Vallejo. Copus will be returning
once again to the scene of the crime at Rafael's Bar. 'Listen + Be Heard'
is one of the most creative endeavors happening around the Bay. Run
by poets/MCs Martha Cinader and Tony Mims, the evening always promises
lots of talent, thought, and laughter. $7 cover.
SUNDAY,
DECEMBER 5
Copus has been asked to return to the wonderful Episcopal church on
Union street for their evening 'unplugged' service. Our previous visit
was so well-received by Minister Lily deYoung and the enthusiastic congregation
that another dynamic co-preaching message of words and music is being
designed. Please join the lovely Monica Williams on flute, powerhouse
Greg McRay on drums, prophetic poet Royal Kent on the spoken mic, and
Wendy at the piano. If you haven't been in a church lately, perhaps
now is the moment to dip your feet in the water and see how much has
changed since then. St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church, 2325 Union
Street @ Steiner. 5:15pm. Free (donations accepted). www.smvsf.org.
4. AFRICAN SOUNDS.
Copus is pleased to be asked to be part of the very impressive roster
of guests in the 'African Sounds' series hosted/produced by the talented
Yaya Fanusie. On THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2nd, please join us for a special
evening of music, poetry, dance, video at the famous Kimball's East
club. Along with Copus will be the wondrous reggae artist Ras Digital.
$10 cover. 6005 Shellmound, Emeryville. For directions, please visit
www.kimballs.com. To read more about the series and Yaya's many projects,

5. POETS + COMPOSERS.
Make sure you check in every 2nd + 4th Fridays of the month at 8pm PST
(www.artistfirst.com) to hear the latest thoughtful interviews and CD
cuts by the Bay Area's finest independent artists. We are averaging
8,000 listeners worldwide per 'airing', so if you haven't listened yet
it is definitely time. If you want to recommend a poet, composer, or
singer/songwriter to be on a future show, please let us know.
6. CAFÉ PRESS
You now have access to some beautifully-designed items such as Copus
Music ballcaps (soon to be collector's items on EBay!), T-shirts, lunchboxes,
and even a wall clock. The lush logo was designed by none other than
the famous Peter Greco who counts among his credits the logos for Santana,
TV show Cheers, and The New York Times. In the 'Poetic License' section
of our store, we are featuring products with designs by ramu aki. The
bold colors and swirling patterns of power that are his trademarks work
perfectly with lyrics by Royal Kent on the 'haves have' blank journal,
tote bag, and postcards. The holidays are approaching, so it's time
to start your early shopping now! Secure and protected orders at: www.cafeshops.com/copusmusic.
7. POETRY SECTION
Two poems for you this week - the first is from a faithful listener
to "Poets + Composers" from Indiana, Cinda S. Wilson. The
second is from the mighty collection of Royal Kent - a piece called
'King Solomon Lock'! ENJOY!
IN THE '70s
In the 70's
When I was on the strip
On 7th
And on stage
before the eager eyes
oblivious to anything else
life was a rocket shooting away from earth
and I it's booster.
For I was the ultimate fantasy
the Sally Ran
the Marilyn Monroe
the Ginsberg in reason
and the Thomas in vision.
In the 70's
Dancing into their daydreams
that gave them pleasure
such SWEET Secrets
money came into the right hand
existed out the left
and I pocketed what reality I could.
In the 70's
I followed the yellow brick road
in my black Omega
my only possession "was" at times my home.
like a muted friend
we traveled
North to South
South to North
searching for anything
love, happiness, a friend, the wizard?
Hell, who knows now?
In the 70's
I would lay in bed and watch
the colors explode before eyes.
Feel the bed spinning faster
then waving as surf
up.....and...down.
I would pop more for intensity.
Life was a joke!
It was just a damn joke!
I escaped into the only reality I knew.
Delving into that space only I could see,
kissed the scarecrow and said Goodbye to the 70's.

KING SOLOMON LOCK
King Solomon Lock
Stood tending his flock
With his locks in a stock
And a key to the lock
King Solomon Lock
Nothing knew he not
Couldn't be stopped
Ruled by the heart
King Solomon Lock
Lived upon the top
Where his brethren Lot
Never looked back
King Solomon Lock
Designed the dock
Where his brethren
Noah built the Ark
King Solomon Lock
Wore seven locks
In his left hand
An orb and in his
Right hand a scepter
King Solomon Lock
My brethren that
Came upon in stories
And prophecy told
Queen Makeda of Sheba
From olden days of old
Her majesty the queen
Stepped forward seen
From Ethiopia from
Whence she came
And from her lips
Came sound galore
The sounds of life
And many more
She wore that which
Befitting her
Majesty the Queen
Crown golden
Robe red gold green
She brings gifts and
Incense and hard questioning
Making King Solomon
A better man for the
Answering
As she bear the seed
Of King Of Kings
